This is upcoming product regulatory requirements from Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC), under Ministry Of Communications, Department Of Telecommunications. On September, 2017, TEC announced that Testing & Certification of Telecommunication Equipment will become mandatory from October, 2018 onwards.

According to TEC’s announcement, all types of telecom equipment (except equipment imported for Research and Development, demonstration purpose, or as a sample for mandatory testing) shall be tested and certified before they are sold in India or connected to Indian telecom network after October, 2018.

Though the final rules and procedures are still under discussion in the authority as of today (February, 2018) and we are not sure about the full details of the Scheme, here are some indications which you can find the announcement:

  • Test shall be done at TEC designated domestic CAB (Conformance Assessment Body) or any TEC recognized CAB of MRA (Mutual Recognition Agreement/Arrangement) partner country
  • One certification shall be required for one model.
  • A certificate will be valid for 5 years from its issuing date
  • Technical requirements will covers not only Electrical & Mechanical Safety but also EMC/EMI, and also some security requirements for some product categories.
